About
The Independence Way was founded by the Knockraha Historical and Heritage Society. The intention of the trail is to map the significant sites that were active during the War of Independence. Knockraha was a significant area for the Irish Volunteers and an active branch of the Cumman na mBan. The area was a training ground, site of two bomb factories, location to stockpile weapons, a prison and series of safe houses. In 1917, volunteers of the Knockraha E Company was established. The Independence Way map will lead you to areas where the story of that period will be revealed.
