(The Women’s Council)
Formed in Dublin on the 2nd of April 1914.
It emerged from an earlier organisation known as
” Inghinidhe na hÉireann ” ( Daughters of Ireland)
This older organisation was founded in 1900 by Maud Gonne. In its new format It was largely under the control of the emerging Irish Republican army. Both organisations played a major role in the 1916 uprising.
